It's time to hydrate baby!

 

Most people know that drinking 1-2 litres of fresh water every day is important. But do you know why?  As humans we are biologically mostly made up of water - it is in all of our cells and is required for the healthy functioning of our bodies.  Think waste removal, nutrient absorption, and the growth and repair of the body (pretty important stuff!).  All of these processes have an affect on your skin - if you're not getting enough water then your removal of waste slows down and may become stagnant, nutrients may not be transported and absorbed properly, and repair processes may not be able to be carried out.  Set yourself a goal to hydrate with 1-2 litres of purified, fresh water*  every day which will result in you looking (and feeling) fantastic!

Now if drinking plain water all the time doesn't turn you on, then think outside the box with tonics and juices!!  The first thing I do in the morning (after my oil pulling) is sip on a lemon and ginger tonic!  Hydrating first thing in the morning with a tonic or fresh juice will give you a nutrient-boosting kick-start to your day.  I also believe that getting these vital nutrients in first thing sets you up for a healthy day ahead!  Here I share with you a few of my favourite recipes, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do x

* water straight from the tap will likely contain toxins such as fluoride, chlorine, heavy metals and bacteria - invest in a filter jug or some other water filtration system, your health will thank you for it!


 
Ginger & Lemon Kickstart 
This delicious drink encourages digestion, helps flush out toxins, reduces inflammation and provides a concentrated dose of nutrients such as vitamin c, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus!

Juice of ½ Lemon

½ inch knob of fresh ginger - use a garlic press to squeeze out the juice

250ml boiled, purified water

Extra cold, purified water

>> Pour boiling water into a mug followed by a little cold water, to bring the water to drinking temperature  (you don't want to put fresh lemon juice into boiling water as it will kill the vitamin c).  Follow with the freshly squeezed lemon and ginger juices.  If you feel you need a little sweetener, add in 1tsp of raw honey. 


Refreshing Green Juice
This delicious juice is worth getting up an extra 15 minutes in the morning for!  Alkalise your body and reduce digestive system inflammation with this super cleansing juice.

3 celery stalks (leaves removed)

Handful of kale leaves

1 small cucumber

1 small lime or lemon, peeled

1 green apple

>> Juice all ingredients & enjoy.  You can also add some greens powder (spirulina, wheatgrass or barley grass etc) to really pump up the alkalising action!


Hydrating Coco-Berry Smoothie
Fresh, unadulterated coconut water is a superfood in it's own right in my opinion - containing a perfect balance of minerals makes it a natural electrolyte drink.  Electrolytes are crucial for hydration and muscle relaxation, and may help reduce stress and fatigue.

½ cup frozen blueberries

½ cucumber, chopped

½ lime, peeled

350ml coconut water

pinch of himalayan salt

>> Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth and enjoy.


All of these nourishing drinks are best enjoyed first thing, before breakfast. This is a terrific habit to get into as it will boost your health and have you looking and feeling fabulous!
